How to post a job on Indeed

The largest generalist job site. Up to three free US job posts a month, with sponsored posts on a budget you set for more visibility.

Best for

High-volume, hourly and local roles where reach matters most.

Less suited for

Niche senior or startup tech roles, and employers who want flat, predictable pricing.

Indeed is the biggest general job site, with employers in more than 60 countries. It works for almost any role. It is strongest for high-volume, hourly and local hiring, where you need lots of applicants quickly.

Indeed pricing

Indeed has two kinds of job posts:

  • Free jobs. In the US you can post up to three free jobs per calendar month, each live for up to 30 days. They appear in search, but they slide down the results as newer jobs come in. A job you closed in an earlier month can't be reopened for free traffic; it has to be sponsored.
  • Sponsored jobs. You set a budget and Indeed shows the job higher and to more people. Indeed recommends an amount based on the title, location and description, and won't charge more than the maximum you set. There is no published per-click or per-application rate. The minimum budget appears only in your account.

Some jobs have to be sponsored. Indeed lists jobs it collects from careers sites, applicant tracking systems and feeds as sponsored only, and it can ask for sponsorship to verify a job is legitimate.

Billing runs monthly, or sooner once you reach $500 in spend.

How to post a job on Indeed

  1. Create an Indeed employer account at indeed.com/hire.
  2. Click Post a job.
  3. Add the job title, location and description. Include the pay range and a full address: Indeed says jobs with pay, an address and Indeed Apply get more impressions and more applications.
  4. When Indeed offers to sponsor the job, skip it to post for free, or set a budget.
  5. To sponsor later, open Jobs, click the three-dot menu next to the job and choose Sponsor job.

Getting more from Indeed with a Jobspage careers page

Free Indeed posts get fewer applicants as they get older, so most teams spread a role across a few channels. Keep the full job on your Jobspage careers page. Jobspage adds the structured data that Google Jobs reads, so the same role can show up in Google search at no cost. Then point candidates from every other channel to that one page, so their applications all land in the same pipeline.

Remember that Indeed doesn't give free reach to jobs it picks up from careers sites. If you want Indeed's free tier, post the role directly in your Indeed account as well.

FAQ

Indeed for employers

Is posting a job on Indeed free?

Yes, within limits. In the US you can post up to three free jobs per calendar month, and each stays live for up to 30 days. Indeed can require some jobs to be sponsored, for example jobs it picks up from a careers site or another applicant tracking system.

How much does a sponsored job on Indeed cost?

There is no fixed price. Indeed recommends a budget based on the job title, location and description, and you can choose another amount above the job's minimum. Indeed says charges never exceed the maximum budget you set.

Do I pay per click or per application on Indeed?

It depends on your account and market. Some sponsored jobs are charged per click, others per started application, which Indeed bills when a candidate takes the first step of applying.

Will my careers page jobs show up on Indeed for free?

Not reliably. Indeed's pricing page lists jobs it collects from careers sites, applicant tracking systems and feeds as sponsored only. To get free reach on Indeed, post the job directly from an Indeed employer account.
